Lion

The lion, often called the "king of the jungle," is a symbol of strength and leadership. Unlike other big cats, lions are highly social animals, living in prides that include multiple females, cubs, and one or two dominant males. Male lions are distinguished by their impressive manes, which vary in color and thickness based on age and health.

In the zoo, lions are given spacious habitats designed to encourage natural behaviors like lounging under trees, roaring, or playing with one another. Behind the scenes, zookeepers provide them with a diet rich in meat, often supplemented with bones to promote dental health. Enrichment activities include large prey-shaped toys and scent-marking opportunities. Educational programs emphasize the importance of lion conservation, as their populations face threats from habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Guests are often mesmerized by the lions’ powerful roars, which can be heard up to five miles away.
